The below is an edited version of the full school policy on mobile phones; those interested in the complete version should contact the school.
This policy has been written in line with Every Child Matters guidance in relation to Enjoying and Achieving and Making a Positive Contribution. Although the School recognises that the use of mobile phones is a ‘normal’ activity for most young people it is keen to ensure that they are used in a safe and controlled manner that allows access to messages from friends and family without having a disruptive impact on the daily running of the school. It has however become evident that phones are frequently misused and can consequently place pupils at risk. The school feels that mobile phones create more problems that outweigh their usefulness in school. In view of the above it is the decision of the Governing Body that the following rules will be observed within The Ramsden Hall School - Mobile phones should never be brought into school by those pupils that do not reside in the boarding provision of the school. Boarders may have mobile phones for use in the evenings only and these should be basic models (no cameras or Internet access). A free telephone is also provided for boarders in order to ensure that they have contact with their families at all times. Mobile phones found to be in school will be confiscated and the time and method of return will be negotiated with parents/carers. Pupils refusing to comply with this policy could be returned home and subject to a Fixed Term Exclusion The school accepts there may be exceptional circumstances whereby parents would wish their son to have a mobile phone in school. Parents should contact the school in these circumstances and the Senior Management will give such requests serious consideration. It is the responsibility of parents and carers to support the school in upholding this policy and thereby avoiding issues of Child Protection or disruption to the delivery of lessons and the learning of all pupils. |
