Autumn Term 2012
Inset Days As notified on our website, the remaining inset days this school year are Monday,19th November 2012, Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd July 2013. A school calendar is attached to this newsletter. Christmas Open Evening After the success of the open evening last year, we are once again offering an opportunity for you to meet with staff and view the work and progress that the boys have been making throughout the term. This will take place on Thursday 20th December 2012 between 3:30pm and 5:30pm and we would like to offer you some Christmas cheer in the form of home-made Mince Pies and winter warming drinks!. I do hope that as many of you as possible can attend and we can celebrate the pupils’ success and progress together. Please complete the form to advise whether or not you intend to come. Pupils not collected with parents will go home at 3.20 in their cabs. Mobile Phones There have been significant problems with pupils misusing mobile phones, disrupting lessons and causing problems. We would like to remind parents and carers that mobile phones should not be brought into school for those pupils that do not reside in the boarding provision of the school. Any pupil caught using a mobile phone inappropriately will not only face possible exclusion but will have the phone confiscated until the parent/carer can come into the school to collect it. We request support from parents and carers in ensuring that pupils do not bring mobile phones into school. Smoking Despite Ramsden Hall having a no smoking policy some pupils are continuing to bring tobacco and lighters into school. There have been incidences of fire lighting that have put the school at risk and incurred disciplinary procedures involving the Police, Governors and resulting in exclusions. We request support from parents and carers in ensuring pupils do not bring tobacco and lighters into school. IT Contracts The school’s IT contract is available. Please remember that pupils cannot use the IT equipment within school without having signed the contract and returned it to school. |
Visit From Paul Connolly
The School was fortunate to have a visit from Paul Connolly, fitness trainer to celebrities who is the author of ‘Against All Odds’ an autobiography of his life that had an unfortunate start when he was placed in the infamous St. Leonards Childrens Home in the 60s where he suffered abuse along with the other children who were placed there. His determination to overcome his past resulted in his successful life today and he helps to inspire other unfortunate youngsters. He gave a talk to pupils and staff at Friday assembly which was received an enthusiastic response and he will continue to be involved with other projects with the school in the future. Retirements/New Appointments Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our long serving Caretaker, Mick Newman and Catering Manager, Lillian Rolph as they leave us after 11 and 23 years service respectively. We wish them a relaxing time in their retirement. We also welcome Dave Poulter to the Site team and Zoe Russell to the Catering team. I do hope to see you all on the 20th December 2012 but if you feel there may be problems in coming to that Open Evening please contact your child’s Key Worker or Tutor. Best wishes, Yvonne Goouge Acting Headteacher |
